still at home :)

its been wonderful the last few weeks at home. i'm getting this antsy-ness to go back to school but then again I'm not looking forward to leaving the comfort of my home. I am the only child in this house! Its kind of new to me, but fun at the same time. My dad finally admitted that I am his favorite (Sorry, Tim!). He's always been saying he loves all his kids equally, but its not true. Though I still think he and my mom are partial to Tim. My mom started missing him BEFORE he left for Japan and both of them diligently check for Tim's blog posts every day.

I finished teacher training for Kaplan and I'm excited. For those of you who want a job for the side, Kaplan is always hiring. Its a great job and it pays pretty well. (MCAT teachers get paid better than SAT, so premed students... after you take the MCAT, you can jump on board!) Let me know if you want to work there and I can refer you to the academic manager. I'm really excited to get teaching! :)

I keep telling my parents how funny it would be to tell my friends what my favorite foods are. So let's see what you guys think. Radish/dicon cake (or paste I suppose) and fried tofu... it doesn't seem very appealing on the page, huh? I just finished eating a wholeeeee bunch of radish cake. Mmmmmm. Homemade food. :)

Anyone else have weird sounding favorite foods?

Basically I'm bored when I'm not working or making food. Btw, I make a mean salad now with a wasabi vinaigrette.

And Tim, mom finally made me clean/organize my room. Its pretty spotless. Can you believe it? Me neither.

My first quake!

So an earthquake shook up my town yesterday, registering a 5.3 on the Richter. It was my first one too, and when my entire house started to act like it was on wheels, I went and hid in the bathtub with my sister, because I couldn't remember if you did that for quakes or tornadoes. Silly me!

The phones went down for hours because the lines were inundated with frantic calls, and I think a couple rafters came lose in the backyard, but other than that, everything was okay.

Fact: Most hospitals are actually built on wheels - its supposed to lessen the impact and all because you roll with the shake, but it also makes even the tiniest ripple seem like you're going to die. Did you know that?

whilst avoiding doing work...

i thought i'd update you on a restaurant discovery. its not new. its been around for five years, and a lot of people have been telling me to go, but i hadn't taken any of that advice until this past weekend.

Figo Pasta.

many people probably have been there before, but i went for the first time with arielle for dinner saturday night. it's fabulous. SO fabulous, in fact, that i took my mother, aunt, and 2 cousins there again last night.

for those of you who have never been, its italian, obviously. the general format is that you choose the type of pasta you want: ravioli, short pasta (penne, rigatoni, gnocchi, etc), or long pasta (linguine, fettuccine, etc). if you get long pasta, you have a choice between spinach noodles or egg noodles. the spinach noodles are extra wonderful.

then after choosing the pasta, you choose your sauce. when i went with arielle, i got the siciliana, which is eggplant, mozzarella cheeze, fresh basil (big leaves of it too. yum), and ricotta cheese (in big chunks) in a marinara sauce. last night, i got their gnocchi which is amazingggg in a marinara sauce that has lamb ragu, olives, and a type of rosemary cheese that i had never had before and don't remember the name of.

my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

oh and if you tell them you're a first time guest at figo (it might be different for different locations, of which there are 5... 6 soon), they bring you this FABULOUS tiramisu. think of the best tiramisu you've EVER had. its better than that.

yum.

k. now i should do some work so that i don't look like a fool during training tonight.

bummer.

so I vividly remember trying Google Maps a couple years ago. I put in my home address for the starting point and then London, UK for the destination.

and it was great. cause after the directions to the border, it said "swim _____ miles."

seriously.
it was HILARIOUS.

so, I told my mom and cousin Shannon today about it today, but they didn't believe me. I just tried it again.

it doesn't work anymore. :( :( :(

now it says the boring "we cannot provide driving directions between Lilburn, GA and London, UK" or something to that effect.

they should've just kept it for kicks. even if we didn't need Google Maps to get places, we would use it just to see "swim _____ miles."
